Ten on Tuesday

1. This one took 8 steps yesterday. 8. That's the most so far. It took a bit of trickery. We were holding on to one end of a piece of ribbon and she held on to the other and away she went.

2. Today, I think the most steps she took were 3 or 4. But she was doing it on her own, without us coaxing her.

3. She can go from sitting to standing to taking a few steps all her own, without leaning on the couch/table/us.

4. Tomorrow (or today, depending when I get this posted) she's 11 months old.

5. Which means we're having a first birthday party in one month. Absolutely crazy.

6. Monday at the fitness center I thought this guy was going to run us over. (I know, total change of subject. But I'll be doing a Mackenzie's-11-months-old post this week so I'll save the rest of what I was going to write about her for that.) We were walking from our car to the fitness center when this car we were passing started backing up. I yelled something along the lines of "Hey hey hey hey hey!!" (Okay, so it was exactly that.) and he stopped. Then he rolled down his window and told me, as he was on his cell phone, (for the record, I talk on my phone in the car, but usually not when backing up/in bad weather, heavy traffic and making turns in busy intersections or on busy roads) "I saw you there. I saw you, I knew you were there." Hmm...so then why were you backing up? Did you really need to back up those 12 inches while I was behind you? You couldn't wait until I passed by? You HAD to do scare the crap out of me? It was annoying.

7. We had our ducts cleaned today, so there was this really big black tube that went from their truck down to our basement. Emma called in a trombone. Numerous times. I said to Michael, "I didn't know she knew what a trombone was." He said, "Obviously she doesn't."

8. I've discovered a great way to cut down on our grocery bill. Don't go grocery shopping. Of course this means Michael keeps having to take PB&J for lunch and I'm scrambling for dinners, but it's saved us money. ;)

9. Michael has to have surgery again Thursday. Nothing big, just to remove two screws. Hopefully within a month he'll be crutches and boot free.

10. Emma finally has something hung in her room. A shelf. She's been in this room since last August and I never hung anything up. But last week I got the shelf, one my dad had made for me a long time ago, painted and tonight Michael hung it up. Now to order this picture and three others from the same Etsy designer and hang them above her bed. I also have some letters that spell out her name to paint and get hung. And then her room will finally be done.

Sonic.

We finally have a Sonic. After attending a warehouse sale this morning (for a catalogue company whose name I can't remember) with Missy, Marie and I headed there for lunch. It was crazy busy. Every spot that you can order from/eat at was full, the drive-through line was wrapped around the building and we took 2 of the 3 open spots that weren't for ordering/eating there. First thing the girls saw was Mr. Slushy. Don't know if that's actually his name but I'm calling him that. Lily and Emma were actually calling him (her?) Milkshake. Lily loved him. Emma loved him from a distance, as you can see in the picture. That was as close as she'd get to him. Lily hugged him, Emma passed.

Emma showing off the food in her mouth. (For those that know me well, please note I ate my burger with the bun today.)

Lily doing the same.

Self-portrait by the minivans.

PS, I'm totally aware we're major cheeseballs/dorks/future-embarrassments-to-our-children for taking pictures at Sonic, and I'm okay with that.

Makes me giggle

Check out her hair.

Taken at the park this morning, mid-swing, mid-laugh with sun in her eyes, hence the funny look on her face. :)

Ten on Tuesday

1. Michael took this picture last night. I think I'll enter it into Gap Kids model search. It'd totally take first place.

2. Wrestling. You'd think 10 1/2 months is too young to start this, but apparently not.

3. Crazy running around in circles. The Buckeyes game was so horrible she had to run off some of her disappointment, anger and disgust. ;) Oh, wait, that was her Dad.

4. "No, no, Mackenzie. You can't go up there. No, no."

5. Emma has no idea what she's in store for.

6. The non-hair pulling version. That's my mom. :)

7. I opened Emma's drawer to put away her socks (see them all on the top?) and this is what I found. A drawer full of Dora house furniture. See that train whistle? The other day I thought she was sleeping, it was around 9:30, 10 pm and then I heard a train whistle blowing. It was hysterical.

8. Mackenzie's teething. And she's got a cold. Well, it's either one or the other or both. I was seriously wiping her nose every 5 minutes, it wouldn't stop running. And nighttime is miserable. For both of us. Well, when she's in bed supposedly sleeping it is. When she's not in bed, this is what I see:

A happy baby at 9:30 tonight. She really likes that burrito. But the instant she's in her crib she freaks. Last night she was up at midnight, 1 am, 2:15 and 2:45 am, 5 am, 6:30 to 7:15 am and then up for good at 8:30. And she wouldn't nap this morning. And only took an hour nap this afternoon in the swing. I put her down around 8:15 tonight and at 9 she was freaking out again. I put her back down, in the swing, around 10 and so far so good. I'd be happy with a four hour stretch of sleep tonight. If she's up, she's happy though. A bit tired-acting, but that's to be expected since she's a bit sleep deprived.

9. I gave her some pizza tonight. Pretty sure none actually made it into her stomach.

10. (Marie, this is for you) Tonight I watched some of the biggest loser. While sitting in the recliner, eating Doritos and drinking Coke. Pretty sure that's not a Jillian-approved snack.

PS, Thanks for the sympathy on the migraine. I don't really know why I went with plain old headache in the last post. I've had them before. The first, and worst, was when I was 13, I think. I was in Cincinnati visiting my sister at college when it struck. thought I was dying. She thought I was dying. She had no idea what to do. After giving me Tylenol/Advil and keeping me in a dark, silent room didn't help, she took me to the emergency room. Except she couldn't find it. And was driving all over, taking sharp turns, there were hills, I was crying and she was freaked out. While not at all funny at the time, it's pretty funny now. ;)

Ten on Tuesday

1. I got Mackenzie the owl Robeez today, put them on her in the car and she promptly started to eat them. They must not have tasted very good though b/c after a few minutes she put her binky back in. How did I know she was eating them? Little Miss Tattletale/Commentator yelled "Mackenzie's eating her owl!"

2. On Labor Day we went to the Fair with our friends. They live right by the fairgrounds so it's an easy walk. Well, easy if you aren't still on crutches like Michael. We were there for 4 1/2 hours. And it was hot. Really hot. But this year I enjoyed it more than last year - I wasn't pregnant. Not sure how much Michael enjoyed crutching around though.

3. Emma rode a pony. And got a pink cowboy hat with a tiara on the front that lights up. Still can't believe Michael bought it.

4. I got to ride the dragon twice. That thing is rough! Seriously.

5. Michael took her on the Ferris Wheel.

6. She wasn't real impressed with the whole goat milking process.

7. Emma and Brooke rode a lot of rides. Definitely got our $20.00 ride-all-day-bracelet's worth. One ride Emma didn't ride? The big slide. I took her all the way to the top. Where she promptly decided she didn't want to go down it. So we had to walk all the way back down, while everyone waited for us. And Emma wanted to do it herself. But she was walking as slow as possible. So I had to carry her which she didn't like at all. I almost forgot, she also wouldn't go in the jumpy house. I knew she wouldn't, because she's yet to go in one. But she was insistent she do it, so we stood in line for 10 minutes only to get to the front and have her not go in.

8. Mackenzie just relaxed in the stroller all day. Well, most of the day. We were holding her for a bit. I should've taken her on the merry go round, but none of us rode it, we forgot about that one.

9. Have I ever mentioned my double stroller? I love it. Really, really love it. So worth every penny.

10. I woke up at 2:30 this morning (completely switching topics, here) with the worst headache ever. I thought I was dying. Really, I thought something might be wrong. I went downstairs and sat in the recliner because the pain was marginally better if I was sitting up. I finally fell asleep on the couch around 3:30. I thought I was going to throw up but then I realized that would hurt my head even more so I fought it. Emma's play kitchen has a clock and the ticking was the most awful sound I've ever heard so I covered it with two folded up blankets to muffle it. Michael was up at 5:30 and I heard him and woke up. I was so out of it I didn't even realize I was on the couch. I though I was still in the recliner. I walked really slowly up to bed because once I started walking the pain started to come back. Thankfully, it was gone when I got up at 7:30. That sucked.

Time for another comparison. And some cute shoes, too.

9 Months

(Mackenzie left, Emma right)
10 Months

(Emma left, Mackenzie right)
I definitely think they have the same nose. But Mackenzie has more hair, it's blonder and crazier. That pretty much sums up my analysis.

So I wanted to get these Robeez for Mackenzie. Love the cupcake.

But I called 8 stores and no one has them, I guess they're from the last line and have been discontinued. I could order online. But instead I'm going to get these. How cute is the owl! I really wanted a pair where the main color is brown, since she already has a pair that are a dark pink color, but who can resist this little owl.

These are cute, too. But there's no brown at all. But they're called something like Scrapbook Flower. :)

Walking update

Twice today she took two steps before falling. She's getting closer!

It's just the beginning

I'm pretty sure this isn't the only picture I'll ever take of the two of them like this. They're already fighting over toys (although theydon't really know that's what they're doing) but they also already like to wrestle, hug, grab, pull, touch and everything else. It's pretty funny. Little does Emma know that one day Mackenzie will be able to really fight back. :)

Our little monkey

This picture was actually taken before the first picture. Emma did not want to share this with Mackenzie, hence the first picture.

These pictures were all taken Tuesday (same day as the previous post with Mackenzie's first step) at my mom's house. Emma played next door with Sophia in the afternoon. Sophia drove Emma around and around and around and around the yard. I have a really cute picture of them smiling at me. Emma was actually posing. I had my camera pointed at them to get some action shots when they passed by but Sophia saw me, stopped the car and posed. I hope I get Emma that well-trained one day.

Taking a step

Right after this picture

And just before this one

She took her first step. She moved one foot forward in an itty bitty step, then pulled her other foot right next to it. Then she plopped down. In my amazement of this, I forgot to note which foot went first. I think it was her right one though. 10 months and 1 day when she took her first step. So cool. Nothing today though. And I really wish she'd just walk already. She so wants to. And we'd all be a lot happier if she was walking. She could get where she wanted to go and we wouldn't have her grabbing us all the time. Although, once she walks, I'll be wishing for the days she grabbed us and held on. So maybe I don't want her to walk after all...
